Saving money on groceries

Grocery shopping is a weekly task for my family. We like to have fresh produce on hand and enough meat for the week that is thawed and ready to cook in the fridge. But lately, my grocery bill has started skyrocketing to upwards of $300-350 A WEEK for my family of 4. Totally unsustainable. Between groceries and gas, I thought something has got to give so I've been trying some options other than my usual shopping habits to see where and how I can find some savings in our food bill.

The two biggest changes I've made:

1. Shopping at Walmart

2. Using the Ibotta cash back app

Shopping at Walmart

Hear me out, especially those of you that were like me and prefer a more premium grocery store shopping experience because I was you. You are going to find all of the exact same products and brands, for the most part, at Walmart at a LOWER cost. Especially the organic options we all try to reach for.

In addition to their low costs, you can take advantage of Walmart’s pick-up option without an added fee.

Ibotta cash back app

Ibotta is a cash back app that I use every single time I purchase groceries at Walmart, or other retailers like Sam's club and Target. Ibotta gives you cash back on certain items and usually an overall cash back percentage on your entire purchase each time you shop. You can use Ibotta one of two ways: log into the Ibotta app and then navigate to your retailer through their app or make your purchases and upload a picture of your receipt to the Ibotta app after. I prefer to just start on the app so there’s not a second step of going back in after the fact and possibly forgetting.

Another added bonus of Ibotta is their referral system. For each friend you refer that completes a purchase through the app both you AND that person will each earn an additional $10 in cash back.

You can cash out your cash back balance once you hit $20 earned or higher directly to your bank account.

For those of you thinking this is too good to be true what's the catch, I already did the research for you. There really isn't a catch, this is an incentive for stores to learn your shopping habits, which they'll see by your receipts anyways, so why not benefit from it?
