When I had my first baby family members told me to put all my high-end wish list items on my baby registry because everyone wants to splurge on you and your first baby. However, those high dollar ticket items don't always work out the way you envision. While I saved a reused a lot of items from my first pregnancy and baby, there were many items that I told myself would "work for now" but I would replace with something else for baby number two.
Diaper and wipe brand
It almost physically pains me to know there was once a time I was paying $45+ for a box of 144 count diapers and $17+ for a box of 704 total wipes. For one, I didn't know any better. And two, we were overseas with my first baby, so we relied on whatever the military base carried and/or Amazon. Now that we're stateside for our second baby, I have discovered the wonder that is Target brand diapers and Sam’s Club wipes. I now spend just under $30 for a box of 204 diapers and $17 for 1,152 wipes. And yes, I double checked my numbers because Y'ALL just look at those numbers for diapers and wipes, that in my opinion, perform the same if not better.
Diaper pail
Diaper pails STINK. And the first diaper pail we had literally stunk, no matter what I did. I tried scented bags, double bagging, scoops of baking soda in between each diaper, carbon filter odor eliminators, essential oils, EVERYTHING. My poor child’s room smelled like poop no matter what. This time around we switched pails and are using the Dekor diaper pail and there is no stink, literally none. My second babies room smells just as fresh on the day we change the pail and have an empty bag in it as it does on the days that the pail is full and needs to be changed. Just go with this pail the first time around and save yourself from the hassle and the smell.
Below is a link to the exact Dekor diaper pail I use:
Highchair
You do not need an expensive highchair, read that one more time. I thought we needed a highchair that could do all the things and grow with my child from infancy into his toddler years. What you really want is a highchair that has no crevasses, meaning the chair and chair back are one piece that do not move, and maybe a seat cover but one that is more leather material than cloth material. The chairs that can adjust and do all these wonderful things and morph into all sorts of different chairs will get food stuck in every single part of it, and in parts you may never be able to clean. Again, save yourself the headache and get a chair you can wipe down in one fail swoop.
The highchair I have is sold out but below is a similar one I almost bought also:
